Has your life felt bereft of whimsy? Do you find yourself searching for that piece of everyday magic? Well, look no further! Here are some tips for how to be whimsical in your day-to-day life, sourced from TikTok and curated by yours truly. Enjoy!

Live in a constant state of delusion. When people question it, just say you're manifesting.

Practice Self-Care

  • Wear matching pajamas every time you change your sheets so you can have "fancy sleep."

  • Have an anniversary to yourself of a really memorable day.

  • When putting on makeup, think about how you are enhancing your features (e.g., mascara helps you see the good in people; lip gloss helps you speak gratitude and positivity).

  • Tell your hands "bath time!" whenever you wash them.

  • When about to start a task, say "ready, okay!" like cheerleaders do before they say a cheer.

  • Wear perfume to bed so you're sweet in their dreams.

  • Listen to French music while grocery shopping to make it more romantic and less mundane-feeling.

  • Have nightly bubble baths with a jug of chocolate milk.

  • Put dried parsley on basic dishes to make it "fancy" just for yourself.

  • Wear glitter makeup or body mist.

  • Every time there's a thunderstorm, light a candle, put on an old vinyl, and put your phone away until the storm is over.

Be a Friend of the Universe (and Strangers)

  • Keep cute special stickers in your purse and give them out to strangers.

    • Alternatively, you could keep star/heart beads or little trinkets!

  • Every time someone says "it's 11:11 make a wish," always wish them the best.

  • Say affirmations while braiding your hair at night to lock the goodness in.

  • Thank candles before blowing them out.

  • Wave to the moon.

  • Kiss your books every time you finish one.

  • Have an imaginary friend who you always try to impress by being a good person.

  • When you lose anything, ask the fairies to help you find it (they do).

    • Alternatively, you could say the fairies needed it more than you.

  • Blow a kiss to your house every morning before you leave and say "hey I'm back" even if you live alone.

  • Say "good morning" and "good night" out loud.

  • Ask "can you hold this please?" when you set something on an inanimate object.

  • Offer silent well wishes when strangers pass by like you're a fairy.

  • Buy all the cross stitch and needlepoint you see at thrift stores and hang it up all over your home.

  • Take a picture of anything heart shaped that isn't meant to be (e.g., chips, gum on the floor, pickles) and save it into an album.

  • Say hello and goodbye to inanimate objects when you leave the house (e.g., "bye bye door" or "hello, Walmart").

  • Yell "HELLO WORLD GOOD MORNING" out the window every morning.

  • Find one thing you've never noticed before every day so you appreciate something new.

Enjoy Your Food and Drink

  • Stir coffee clockwise so you have a good day.

  • Say "may I take your coats?" while peeling garlic.

  • Tell your food and drinks "hold on ladies" when turning sharp corners in your car.

  • Drink normal drinks out of fun glasses (e.g., lemonade in a champagne glass or water in a Martini glass).

  • Pretend fun drinks are little potions that help you throughout the day.

  • Eat plain bread at night and pretend you're a little Victorian child rationing.

  • When someone is looking for an object, say "I ate it."

Live Alongside Nature

  • Say hello to the mountains and the river as you drive by them.

    • If it's cloudy out, whisper because the mountains are asleep.

  • Tell your pet not to answer the door for anyone before you leave.

  • Have Antarctica pinned on the weather app to check on the penguins everyday.

  • Say "that's my friend" when passing an animal.

  • Eat honey out of the jar like Winnie the Pooh.

  • Tell your dead pets you love them every night before you go to sleep.

  • Say "bless you" when animals sneeze.

  • When you see a bug or an animal, say "hello, mister/miss ____" (e.g., "hello, mister spider").

  • Lift your pets up so they can look outside of windows they can't normally look out of.

  • Say "excuse me" to pigeons on the sidewalk (also applies to squirrels, chipmunks, and other sidewalk creatures).

  • Tell your pet they're in charge when you're going out the door.

  • When you see a bug around where you're sitting, say "is this seat taken?" or "would you mind a little company?"
