The Maiden Voyage

Welcome to the inaugural blog post of Maddy Dot Com! The place for all my weird thoughts and musings (in addition to the serious topics and well-researched essays, of course). Here I will chronicle opinions, share stories, and examine topics thoroughly, disturbingly so. It'll be so much fun!

The closest I've come to blogging was my one-year stint in the journalism class at my high school writing for the school newspaper. Or when I had to create my own blog in fourth grade using Google Blogs. Neither of those options lent themselves to my creative endeavors—except if, in the case of the latter, those creative endeavors strictly involved interactive koi fish-feeding games. I hope someone out there knows what I'm talking about.

But I had an itch—an insatiable desire to tell the world my opinions. I share them already to a disturbing extent on social media, but I needed more. Thus, Maddy Dot Com was born. Out of boredom, mostly. But also influenced quite heavily by my ego and the fact that I think I am a better writer than most influencers on TikTok and Substack (my profiles on both sites linked for your perusal). I constantly undulate between thinking I'm the greatest person in the world and thinking I'm the worst person in the world. With writing, however, my ego remains consistently unscathed. (That reminds me...I'll need to do a critique of Sigmund Freud at some point on here. The man was right about some stuff, but God was it insane.)

I'm excited by the concept of writing again, of sharing my prose with the world. I've been writing at random intervals these past few years, but nothing stuck because no one was seeing it. Is that what makes someone a writer? People seeing their work? If you asked me, I'd say "Of course not! What makes someone a writer is that they write."

So what does that make me?
